NPC

This project is based off of my experiences playing the Fallout video games.

When I play video games like Fallout, I make deep emotional connections with the world. As a result, I really retain what happens to characters (both named and nameless) when I'm playing. Over time, I began to reflect deeply on the NPCs who die alone, unremembered, and with whom my only remaining possible interaction is searching their bodies.

Something about the experience of looking at these bodies, these people who were never designed to really be seen as people, began to feel deeply meaningful to me- almost religious. In these pieces, I used screenshots of dead NPCs as reference, and aimed to portray them with religious reverence. Each piece’s title is “Search [character title]”, reflecting all that’s left for us to interact with.
